About the author
Victoria Walters has always loved creating stories. Her first book was handwritten when she was sixteen years old, and was closely modelled on the Sweet Valley High series. Victoria studied sociology at Warwick University and has since worked for a business publisher and as a Waterstones bookseller. She lives in Surrey with her cat Harry (named after Harry Potter, not Harry Styles). This is her first novel.

1. Tell me about your book!
My debut novel, The Second Love Of My Life, comes out in April 2016. It’s about a woman called Rose whose life changes completely when she loses her childhood sweetheart. She becomes a widow at the age of twenty-four and the novel is set two years later as she tries to re-build her life without him. A newcomer called Robert arrives in her small Cornish town for the summer … can she allow herself the chance to love again?
2.Why did you decide to write this kind of genre?
I actually started out writing young adult fiction but I think it was through this novel that I was able to really find my voice as a writer. I have always loved reading romantic stories, and my favourite books always seem to have that happy-ever-after, so it felt natural to move into this genre. I love writing stories about women and their lives and although romance is a key strand to them, it’s also about how they find themselves as well.
3. Who are some of your favourite authors?
My favourite author of all time is Jane Austen and I regularly re-read her books but some of my other favourite books are Jane Eyre, I Capture The Castle, The Help, Little Women, North and South, Bridget Jones’s Diary, The Fault In Our Stars, Anna and The French Kiss, and The Misinterpretation Of Tara Jupp. Oh and I’ll always have a soft spot for the Twilight and Harry Potter series.
I’m a bookseller so I could talk about books all day! Let’s move on …
4.Who inspires you?
Writers are really inspiring to me because I know how tough our business can be and knowing that so many writers have been successful after being rejected not just once or twice but sometimes hundreds of times kept me pushing forward on my own journey, and still inspires me. But also anyone who has faced failure in their chosen field but kept on going because they were determined to make their dream come true inspires me. My favourite quote is from Walt Disney – “If you can dream it, you can do it”. It’s kept me going through the ups and downs of being a writer!
5.What are your ambitions for your writing career?
I feel so lucky that my book is being published that it’s really hard to think of other ambitions as it’s such a dream come true to just be getting to hold my book in my hands! But I would love to continue writing books and become a full time writer at some point. And I suppose, let’s face it, to see my name at the top of the bestseller list one day …
6.If your book got turned into a movie which actor/actress would you love to play the main characters?
For my main character Rose …
And for Robert the man she may or may not fall in love with …
Thank you so much for having me Beth!
The Second Love Of My Life
In the small Cornish town of Talting, everyone is known for something.
Up to the age of twenty-four, artist Rose Walker was known for lots of things: her infectious positivity; her unique artistic talent; her second-to-none cookery skills; and, of course, her devotion to childhood sweetheart and husband Lucas.
But, two years ago, all of that changed in one, unthinkable moment. Now, Rose is known for being a young woman who became a widow aged just twenty-four.
Rose knows that life must - should - go on. But the prospect of trying to carve out a future for herself is one she can still barely entertain. Until a newcomer, Robert Green, arrives in Talting for the summer...
