It's the beginning of the summer in a small town in Ireland. Emma O'Donovan is eighteen years old, beautiful, happy, confident.
One night, there's a party. Everyone is there. All eyes are on Emma.
The next morning, she wakes on the front porch of her house. She can't remember what happened, she doesn't know how she got there.
She doesn't know why she's in pain.
But everyone else does. Photographs taken at the party show, in explicit detail, what happened to Emma that night.
But sometimes people don't want to believe what is right in front of them, especially when the truth concerns the town's heroes . .
I give it - 5/5
My review - This book is not for the faint hearted. It is a book that will make you emotional, it made me angry whilst reading it. Not because it wasn't good, it was phenomenal, but because of the topic. It is such an important topic and this book speaks the truth about it. Because stuff like this happens and will carrying on happening until action is taken.
Louise has held nothing back when writing this book and that is a really good thing. This book made me cry.
Yes the main character is mean, but does that mean what happened to her should have happened? No. This book also tackles the topic of victim blaming. Because it wasn't her fault, she wasn't asking for it. But when the pictures get posted online people are saying something different saying she did ask for it. Social media is a horrible thing when it comes to a topic like this and the main character, Emma, learns it from the hard way, by basically being ridiculed online.
This is one book I won't forget. Louise has done a brilliant job with this book. I would encourage ever young adult to read this if you haven't already. Yes it will leave you upset and really angry. It is really well written and talks about victim blaming and consent.
The best YA book of 2015 I have read and one that will stick with me.
