When June met Delia, she was a lifeline. Their intense friendship gave her a sense of belonging, of security, that she’d never had before. She felt braver, smarter, funnier, more attractive when Delia was around. But then something went wrong, and Delia and June haven’t spoken for a year when an announcement is made at their school that Delia is dead.
June barely has time to mourn before Delia’s ex-boyfriend convinces her that Delia didn’t kill herself but was in fact murdered, and June is fast swept into a tangle of lies and deceit – and a conspiracy she can barely conceive of, never mind believe.
Stylish, sexy and atmospheric, with so many twists it will leave you breathless.
I give it - 4/5
My review - This is a dark, twisted story and I liked it.
In this story we meet June. She shows up to school one day to find out her friend Delia is dead. They haven't been in contact for over a year but when she hears about Delia's death she is very upset and things come to light and it looks like Delia's death might not have been suicide at all. I really liked the character of June. She is just trying to do right by her friend in this book. Delia on the other had kind of annoyed me. In the flashbacks she was just very annoying but they did have a great friendship. They where always together but as soon as they get older boys get involved and their friendship sizzles.
Halfway through the book everything changes, I wasn't expecting it whatsoever. This story had a little bit of everything, mystery, friendship, twisted and just really interesting. I didn't know how I felt after reading this book but after a few days I decided I liked it and I did like the story like and all the craziness that happens in-between. Lynn has a great style of writing that just had me hooked and I wanted to find out what happened to Delia as much as June. Great book that will have you guessing. If you love your dark YA books then this book is for you.
It's the year 2089 and everything is altered. The revolutions of the early 21st century have created a world divided - between the Privileged few and the Native (Celtic) underclass. Sorlie is enjoying a typical carefree Privileged teenage life until it is smashed apart by the cruel death of his parents and he is spirited away to live with his ice-cold grandfather at a mysterious island penal colony. Sorlie's discovery that the captives are being genetically altered to remove all trace of their Native origins triggers a chain of shocking events that reveal his grandfather's terrible secrets and, ultimately, the truth about himself.
