~I was sent a copy to review-all opinions are my own~
I give it - 4/5
My review - What a fantastic Sci-Fi thriller!
I have been hearing about this book all year long and I was so excited to get a copy to read and review. I really enjoyed every second of it. I really like the plot, the characters, just the overall book and it shows how well Jason and Kirsten worked together. They have written such a fantastic book and I can't wait to see what they write next.
Otherworld is a MMO game. Simon has been on the waiting list for months, he steals his parents card to buy the stuff he will need to play the game and luckily, he is selected to take part in the beta. Otherworld is game everyone is dying to play. You can be anything you want and get anything you want. It is the game of all games. Simon wants to find his online friend Kat. She's stopped talking to him and has been taken to the White City after she has been in an accident.
But, something is strange about White City and Simon is determined to find out what and to find Kat before things get even weirder.
This was such a fun book that was full of action in reality and in the game. I loved reading about Simon. He came from a rich background but, he was more of a rebel than anything. He was fun to follow.
This book is dark and gritty. It is about living between reality and in game. Doing what you can and trying to find out what is happening. This is the perfect Sci-Fi book that will keep you gripped from the beginning. I love the in game and how the story was told. It was really imaginative and I couldn't put it down until the end. I cannot wait for Other Earth. Kirsten and Jason have written something fantastic that I think everyone is going to love and just be transported into the Otherworld....
Jack and his dad are runaways. Jack’s father recently turned whistleblower, revealing the truth about the illicit dealings of some powerful people. Realising that he and Jack might be in danger, Dad drives them to a remote shooting lodge in the Scottish Highlands, where they intend to lay low.
In the cornfield beside the lodge stands a scarecrow. When Jack witnesses something incredible, he begins to realise that it is no ordinary scarecrow – it is alive, hungry and fuelled by rage. And when Dad’s enemies begin to converge on the lodge, the scarecrow might just turn out to be Jack’s best hope of survival.
What inspired Scarecrow?
Halloween is coming… Time to turn your thoughts to all things spooky.
Scarecrow is an idea that came to me quite unexpectedly.
I was reading something about a whistle blower – a guy who had dished the dirt on some very important people and had to go into hiding for his own protection. I found myself thinking, what if you were a teenage kid and the whistle blower was your father? What would it like being dragged into something that was really nothing to do with you?
But that wasn’t enough for a whole story. I needed a supernatural element (because I like supernatural elements) and I started thinking about scarecrows. Those things have been used for centuries to keep crops safe from harm. And I thought, what if the boy meets a scarecrow, who is a bit more mobile than you’d really like him to be… a scarecrow who can talk… a scarecrow who is driven by pure anger.
And I thought, what if that scarecrow was your one hope of survival?
